Just wondering, how is the underwater welding carrer? I was told it's good money, but requires expensive education and training unless you can get a paid apprentiship. Also told the average carrer of an underwater welder is 10 to 15 years? Health hazards or just hard work?

it all depends on the company you work for some companys only do certain things.. our company did eveything from boat, bridge, dock inspections to major bridge dock repairs.. it is very good work union but it does take a toll physically and mentally.. i have a wife and 2 kids 1 year old and 6 year old and some jobs have me away for months on end.. there is alot of schooling involved but you can also get alot of on the job training depending on what your current skills are.. if you have a few companys in you area i suggest you stop by and talk to some one.. most companys in my area dont even advertise for help wanted. i got lucky in my job i dont do much diving i do more dock and bost inspections since some of the divers in my company are older and dont like operating the video equiptment. i've been doing this for about 6 years and i need a change i am also the youngest at my company most of the other divers have me beat by about 20years..

i got in the work for the money and now my wife wants to go back and get her RN license i need to be home more and this job wont allow that..

it is a very good job when it comes to the money there work really isnt to hard.. and it all depends on what compnay you work for and what work they do the most of.. there are times i dont work cause our compnay puts in bids to get work and sometime we dont get the contract time like that you wounder when your going to work again.. but thats normal in the construction trade..
