I'm thinking of learning to weld, but I have a few questions. I've used oxy torches in the past for cutting and have had a problem with standard welding goggles. I tend to have to be led around like a lost puppy for a short time as I tend to have bright yellow spots in my direct line of vision. As I understand it, standard goggles have a #3 lense, would switching to a #6 lense prevent this and would I be safe in choosing a #14 or #15 lense for MIG & TIG welding?

What ever works for you. Do you have green or blue eyes? Those people are the most effected by arc flash.
I use a #9 for light gauge TIG and some MIG, and a #12 or 13 for ARC or high amperage TIG.
